Tiered Task Boxes
So I fallen in love with the Work/Task box concept. Like, madly in love. It is quite possibly my favorite part of our day and I can’t quit coming up with new ideas to implement in out Work Tub time. One of the new things I’ve been trying is adding a academic component to some of my beginner tasks. So far the results have been pretty great.
Here an example of a task idea I got from the Task Galore books
I cut holes into the lid of a shoe box and taped pictures of something I knew my students would like to a popsicle stick.
The student sticks them into the slots until every slot is full. This simple activity turned out to be very popular among my class and was a great confidence builder among my beginner students.
Since it worked so well I wanted something that used the same format that could work on academic skills as well. So I stuck pictures of short A words on popsicle sticks and made a second version of the task.
It’s the exact same activity on the student has to look at the card and match it to the spot that has the word written.
I like that I didn’t have to teach my students a whole new task, just the academic part of it. Most of my students caught on really quickly and seemed to really enjoy it.
How do you guys make your beginning tasks more academic?
