Comparing Numbers Work Task
So we have officially entered into testing season in my neck of the woods and that got me thinking about sharing some of the tasks I use to help my non-verbal and non-writers demonstrate some higher level math and reading skills. This year my state is using computer based assessments to tests my students but I’ve continued using some of these tasks hoping that it will help them with the tasks they’ll see on the computer.

Comparing and Ordering Numbers to 10
This task is super simple. Students count the cookies, find the number and stick it at the top and decide if that number is less than or greater than 5. There are 9 cookie cards included. I purposely left out the number 5 because we were only dealing with the concepts of less than or greater than 5. I didn’t want to confuse them by throwing in one lone equal to. When I introduced this concept I used real cookies to practice with and then when we were done everyone got a nice little snack for all their hard work. I wish I had taken pictures because it really was a fun way to practice a not so fun topic.
